sticky label on glass coffee tables...any ideas please?
i have peeled off the labels & it has left a couple of big adhesive patches that i cant get off...I cant use a scourer as they are glass & dont want to scratch the surface.

anybody have any ideas how i can remove the adhesive without ruining the tables?

i'd appreciate any serious answers... thank you.
edit: i did try soapy water..the top of the label came off...leaving that horrible glue - so far though..thanks for some great answers...going to try some of these ideas!

Try some white spirit.
Any alcohol based fluid, vodka works well.
nail polish remover
I'd try to soak it off by putting a flannel soaked in warm soapy water on top of it for a couple of hours and then gently pushing it off
Soak in hot water.
there is a great goo on the internet called GOO GONE that works like a charm. it's only available online.
Try nail varnish remover, or white spirit, or meths or WD40. One of these will likely remove your problem.
Glass is a remarkably strong material and doesn't scratch easily.

I suggest getting some fairy liquid on it and letting it soak for a bit and then if you can't scratch it off with your nail... just get the rough side of a sponge and scrub it off.
Lakeland have fab sticky stuff remover
http://www.lake…
but there are seemingly some other ways such as furniture polish, vinegar and even hairspray that might work!!
Try a sharp flat edged razor blade but be careful you don't cut yourself. Then you can wash off the area and it should be OK.
There's something called 'Sticky Stuff Remover' which works well though smells a bit! You can get it from Lakeland Limited. Don't wet the sticky patch first and apply it with a ball of cotton wool or similar. Keep rubbing and it will come off. (No I don't work for the company!)
I use a high % pine oil cleaner. It will break down the residue and not harm the glass. You may have to use a glass cleaner to remove the oily residue from the glass.
You can saturate the area with WD-40, leave it a few minutes and then come back a scrape it off.
Or, you could buy a product called Goo Gone at a hardware store that it specifically made for problems like this.
But be careful with the goo gone, it will ruin any wood finish if you have some nearby.
Some thing spirit based - meths will do, or even whiskey or vodka (waste, though!)
WD-40 Works every time
A BIT OF WHITE SPIRIT HUN....DONT YOU JUST HATE IT WHEN YOU GET SOMETHING WITH A STICKY LABEL ON IT......Especially shoes lol
cilit bang, fantastic for any thing sticky, wipes off like a dream, also you will be able to use the rest in the house.
Get a soapy dishcloth and leave on the label overnight. It should come off with a hard edge (thumb nail etc) in the morning.

Failing that cigerette lighter fluid is perfect. Just over a pound from any good newsagent. Make sure you get fluid and not gas. Also, take some ID with you look young, you need to be 18.
furniture polish.....spray it on ,leave it a couple of minutes & off it peels!
Take liquid fabric softener and hot water (about 1:4 ratio). Apply, let sit on area for a few minutes, and wipe away with a soft cloth. Fabric softener breaks down glue and adhesive. As an added bonus, it will smell nice.
Try some nail varnish remover on a bit of cotton wool. Just gently rub it and it should come right off :)
Lemon juice ! ! !
put water on it so the lables "soggy"
then is peels off easy.
You can buy Sticky Remover wipes in a small tub, from B & Q.
I have had success by putting on a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a cotton pad and laying it on top of the mark for a few hours to soften the gum. Then wipe away bit by bit. Hideous job, but worth it in the end.

Hope this helps you.

Cheers

windex and a razor blade

squirt the sticky patch with windex and rub gently with the razor blade, repeat until the sticky patch is gone.
White spirit on a soft cloth. Hold over the 'sticky' for a minute then gently wipe away. It WILL work like magic.
